Why I Love Icons.
Why I Love Icons.
For just about as long as I have been on the internet I have made Avatars or icons as I sometimes call them. For forums, Instant Messaging programs, to look at and admire to share and just to pass the time doing something fun! It is also such a joy to look at other peoples work and think 'wow, that is just breath taking.' To learn from others and to master certain skills that you never thought you could tackle.
Avatars change so much and new fashions come in and go out and its always fun to catch a ride in what is hot at the time. If its glowing circles, different colour tones, grungy textures, flowers, swirls, small text it all becomes such a thrill to see how people use this and create such brilliant mini-masterpieces.
On my Avatar Archive spookish.net I have a collection of avatars I have made for literally hundreds of subjects and I always enjoy spending at least three times a week making icons, uploading them and being pleased with the result. But I do always squirm looking at some of my older attempts at icon making. The one thing that is so great, is you can learn how to do something very quickly. You find a good tutorial and you will be making avatars that you thought you would only drool over.
I don't know what it is about Avatars, if they are the small little love-bugs that fill up the millions of forums around the world, or the character type you use for games, or all the other types in between. But I guess it kind of relates to the element of it being rather personal and allowing for the individual to have control in how they want to portray their emotions, mood, style or just show the world who they are via an image.
I love avatars, and it is a pleasure to be able to run this fanlisting and bring together other people that love them as well!
